<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a contact force vector detector for detecting the strength and the direction of a force applied by a physical object, without utilizing deformation of a contacted element. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This contact force vector detector is equipped with a detection part 101 for detecting a first domain of the physical object contacting with a transmitting plate and a second domain which does not contact the transmitting plate from an input image, acquired by photographing the physical object via the transmitting plate; a characteristic quantity calculating part for calculating a plurality of characteristic quantities for each of images in the first and second domains in the input image, a generating part 107, generating characteristic quantity vectors based on the plurality of characteristic quantities; and a contact-force vector calculating part 109 for calculating contact-force vectors, each showing the strength and direction of contact force, based on a correlation between the quantity vectors and the strengths and directions of contact forces applied to the transmitting plate by the physical object.
