<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a core performance computing method and device, enhancing the control accuracy of core characteristics of a core loaded with fuel assemblies each having a spectral shift rod (SSR). Ž<P>SOLUTION: A plurality of fuel rods each having an SSR is loaded in the core of a nuclear reactor, and the reactivity of the core is controlled by changing the position of a liquid level formed inside a coolant upflow passage of the SSR. The amount of cooling water to be distributed is computed for the individual fuel assemblies, and thermohydraulic computing including computing the distribution of void ratios within the fuel assemblies and computing the water level in the SSR is executed. The water level in the SSR is corrected from the output distribution difference between the output distribution in the core axis direction measured by a neutron detector and the output distribution obtained by the nuclear thermohydraulic computing.
