The engine has a pre-chamber (4) connected with a main combustion chamber (2) through an opening (5). A combustion gas nozzle (7) is attached to a high pressure combustion gas line and is led into the pre-chamber for mixing combustion gas with a lean gaseous fuel-air mixture provided in the pre-chamber. An ignition device (6) ignites enriched gaseous fuel-air mixture. The opening extends in a tangential direction of the pre-chamber so that the lean gaseous fuel-air mixture flowing into the pre-chamber from the chamber (2) is subjected to rotational flow in the pre-chamber (4).
