PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus which uses an authentication medium and has high security, and a method for controlling the same apparatus, etc.

SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is provided with: a reading means 15 for reading medium-unique information from the authentication medium of a user; a decision means 18 for deciding whether or not reliability in security of the authentication medium from which the medium-unique information is read by the reading means is high; and a restriction means 10 for restricting use of the apparatus when it is decided that the reliability of the authentication medium is low by the decision means. Whether or not the reliability in security of the authentication medium is high is decided, for example, by card type.
