<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide technology for improving convenience in updating sender information stored in a storage means. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When an attachment file is attached to received mail for updating a telephone book (S3: Yes), a multifunction machine 1 decides whether or not the mail is set to be transmitted to an individual, i.e. "TO" (S5). When the "TO" is set (S5: Yes), a telephone book is updated by overwrite based on the sender information described in the attachment file (S6). When the "TO" is not set (S5: No), or in multi-address transmission (CC, BCC), only the part unregistered in the telephone book is updated based on the sender information described in the attachment file (S7).
