<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To facilitate installation of a lash adjuster to an arm type valve gear. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A male thread 24 formed on the outer periphery of a screw rod 23 is engaged with a female thread 22 formed on the inner periphery of a tubular body 21. A lash adjuster (A) for adjusting valve clearance, in which the screw rod 23 is energized toward the outside by a spring 27 installed in the body 21, is held in the contraction state by the set member 40 which is freely pulled out and inserted, and installed in the arm type valve gear. The set member 40 is pulled out by pulling a filaceous member 44 connected to an operation piece part 41 of the set member 40, and the screw rod 23 is projected while being rotated by the elastic force of the spring 27 to put the lash adjuster (A) into an operation state.
