The operating method involves carrying workpiece stacks (6) from a longitudinal conveyor track before a turning device (12) into a lower level on a longitudinal conveyor track (5) of the turning device. The longitudinal conveyor track with the workpiece stacks is lifted against a transverse conveyor track (3), such that the loose workpiece stacks are clamped between the conveyor tracks. The turning device is subsequently turned by 180 degree and the longitudinal conveyor track is then lifted upward from the workpiece stacks. An independent claim is included for a device for turning and angle transport of loose workpiece stacks of flat workpieces, particularly of board or foil material for pressing in a downstream press.
