A device for compensating the motion of a target volume of a patient to be irradiated with a radiation beam, said radiation beam being generated by a radiation source, said device (60) comprising:

€¢ compensator (50) located between said radiation source and said tissue equivalent material (65), said compensator (50) capable of reproducing the distal shape of the target volume of said patient to be irradiated;
€¢ means (61, 62, 63, 64, 66) for varying the thickness of said tissue equivalent material (65) in order to compensate the motion of said target volume.
