PURPOSE: An electron beam apparatus and an image display apparatus using the same are provided to increase the electron emission efficiency. CONSTITUTION: An image display apparatus using an electron beam apparatus includes the following contents. An insulating member(3) has a concave part(7) in the surface. A gate(5) is placed on the surface of the insulating member. A cathode(6) is placed on the surface of the insulating member and includes the tongue part. The tongue part protrudes from the edge of the concave part towards the gate. An anode is faced with the tongue part. The length of the edge direction of the concave part of tongue part is shorter than the length of the concave part edge direction facing the tongue part of the gate.
