When signalling a communication link in the WAN between a first and a second terminal (IPEl, IPE2), a WAN network address (wnal, wna2) and a logical WAN port address (wpal, wpa2) are respectively interchanged in a signalling section. Following ascertainment of the same WAN network addresses (wnal, wna2), repetition of the protocol section is initiated in the terminals (IPEl, IPE2), with repetition of the protocol section involving the LAN network addresses (IaI, Ia2) and logical LAN port addresses (lpal, Ipa2) of the terminals (IPEl, IPE2) being interchanged. The interchanged LAN network addresses (IaI, Ia2) and the logical LAN port addresses (lpal, Ipa2) are used to transmit the multimedia information (mmi) between the terminals (IPEl, IPE2) directly in the local area network (LAN). The transport of the multimedia information (mmi) directly from terminal (IPEl, IPE2) to terminal (IPEl, IPE2) without switching by a router (R) provides significant dynamic load relief both for the respective LAN and for an available router (R).
|
