[Class 70.] Articles such as bathing caps are stampwelded from a pair of rubber sheets 8, 9, by passage between a smooth roller 7 and a roller 1 provided with a mantle 2 having channels 3 in which blunt dies 4 are disposed. The mantle 2 may be of elastic material such as soft rubber the dies being sunk to such depth that they extend to the level of the mantle only when the latter is compressed. Alternatively a rigid mantle may be employed ; in this case mechanical means must be provided for removing the stamped bodies from the surface of the roller. Rows of dies may be arranged axially, a number of such rows being disposed around the circumference of the roller ; adjacent rows may be displaced to permit disposal of the dies in such a way as to avoid waste of material. The dies may have pressing surfaces on the inner side so as to produce band-like seams. |
