The detection and prediction process involves recording a number of standard travel situations, describing them by a group of travel state parameters, recording a number of road sector state parameters for a particular stretch of road, reporting rules to be implemented for a group for a standard situation, detecting a forthcoming stretch of road, reporting its parameters and designating the forthcoming stretch of road as one of the standard driving situations.
