The method involves defining a fading function that represents a target output power during a fading process and an initial value of which corresponds to an output signal power and an end value of which corresponds to another output signal power. The fading process is performed by mixing a set of audio data streams such that an output power corresponds to the fading function and approximation function in passages. Noticeable volume fluctuations are avoided while switching a hearing aid from an operating state to another operating state. An independent claim is also included for a hearing device comprising a measuring device.
