PURPOSE: An apparatus for detecting x-ray and a method thereof are provided to detect X-ray by improving the structure of the plasma display panel. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting x-ray and a method thereof applies sustain voltage to the sign electrode during charging period, and applies bias voltage to constant electrode. A step to maintain GND for the sign electrode and constant electrode in the reading period is included. An actuator includes the step to apply the lamp pulse having a slope in the elimination period. The elimination period is made after scanning the pixel capacitor belongs to all lines. The charge quantity is scanned by charging each pixel through the charging period and reading period, and the electric charge is eliminated in the elimination period.
