[Class 86.] In an extruding machine or refiner for rubber or the like comprising a screw whereby the material is forced through a cylinder and discharged radially at the end through a perforated cylindrical strainer, the part 12 of the screw core extending into the strainer head is flared to reduce the volume of material within the head. The wall thickness of the flared part is uniform. A temperature-controlling fluid is introduced by a pipe 18 within the screw terminating in a conical member 20, and is discharged through the annular space surrounding them. A helical rib 21, preferably integral with the screw wall, may be provided in the space surrounding the conical member. Knives are provided for cutting the strands of material issuing from the strainer. |
