The invention proposes a method for coding digital color images, in which empirically determined coefficients when determining luminance and chromatic components for TV signal transmission in systems NTSC, PAL, SECAM are used, as well as luminance conversion in images restoration systems. When determinating chromatic components and luminance, normalizable eigenvalues of a covariance matrix calculated individually for each image or a frame of a video steam are used.
