[Class 18] [See also Group VIII] A box blank d, Fig. 10 is glued in unfolded condition to a flat part c adapted to form a projecting edge, and is then folded as shown in the lower half of the Figure to form a tray-like container. The parts c, d, to the lower of which glue is applied are placed by hand on a travelling support provided with positioning members to locate the parts in proper relative position, and are acted on by pressing members travelling with, and automatically moved to and from the support in relation to its travelling movement. The parts are placed in proper relative position on a face 7 of a polygonal drum 6 rotating about a shaft 5 while the corresponding pressure plate 28 is raised against the action of a spring by a fixed cam 31 which contacts with a roller 29 in a radially-sliding arm 26, and are pressed together when on further rotation of the drum the cam allows the arm 26 and plate 28 to descend. The flat part c may be provided with an internal layer or layers of corrugated cardboard to form a cushioned box cover, and may be given a tapering edge by using an inwardlybevelled frame-like member 10 as positioning means. The travelling support may take the form of an endless band, or a disc. |
