PURPOSE: An apparatus for scanning an iris for authenticating another person using a wide angle camera and a method thereof are provided to display distance information to an eyeball of an information provider on an image display unit, thereby easily grasping whether the eyeball of the information provider is located within an operating range of scanning an iris of the apparatus for authenticating an iris. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for scanning an iris for authenticating another person using a wide angle camera includes an illuminating unit, a narrow angle image collecting unit, a wide angle image collecting unit, an image display unit and an image processor. The illuminating units(11a,11b) illuminate an infrared ray toward an eyeball of an information provider(17). The narrow angle image collecting units(12a,12b) collect an image of the eyeball illuminated by the illuminating units. The wide angle image collecting unit(13) collects an image of the whole face including an eyeball. The image display unit(15) displays the image collected by the narrow angle image collecting units and the image collected by the wide angle image collecting unit. The image processors(16a,16b) scans an iris through an image of the collected eyeball. |
