The engine (1) has an oxidant intake manifold (2), and injector (5) for injecting the fuel in the manifold. A combustion chamber (3) is connected to the manifold to drive the oxidant and the injected fuel. A starter starts the engine. A vacuum pump (7) selectively generates depression in the manifold (2), and a control unit (8) controls the operation of the pump. Intake valve (9) is placed in an upstream section of an air intake manifold and to vary an inlet section of the oxidant. Intake valve (9) is placed in a manner that the injector is placed between the valve and the chamber.
