The method involves measuring temperature carried out in an upstream of a particle filter (6) on an exhaust line (2) in an exhaust flow direction. An operation of a regeneration system (10) of the particle filter is monitored from the carried out measurement by detecting a functioning fault when the functioning fault is detected that the measured temperature exceeds a predetermined threshold or predetermined threshold greater than the former predetermined threshold. An independent claim is also included for an exhaust line of an engine comprising a temperature sensor placed in an upstream of a particle filter in an exhaust flow direction.
