PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique by which the user of an IC card can update a protocol set in an IC card without intentionally performing the updating procedure of the protocol.

SOLUTION: Information specifying divided protocol codes stored in an IC card 150 is aded to data to be used in a process for performing the mutual authentication of a terminal 130 and the IC card 150, and is transmitted from the IC card 150 to the terminal 130. The divided protocol codes is added to the data to be used in the process for performing the mutual authentication of the terminal 130 and the IC card 150, and is transmitted from the terminal 130 to the IC card 150.
