<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely set the phase of a crankshaft and the phases of camshafts in a predetermined relation. <P>SOLUTION: In the method for assembling a timing system of an engine 10, a timing chain 30 is wound around a sprocket 20 attached to the crankshaft 18 and sprockets 24, 28 attached to the camshafts 22, 26. The method includes a step of extending the timing chain 30 around the sprockets 20, 24, 28 in such a manner that the marks of the sprockets 20, 24, 28 and the marks of the timing chain 30 corresponding thereto are mated with each other, a step of preliminarily assembling a chain guide 32 that makes contact with a tensile part 30a of the timing chain 30 in an engine body 12, a step of locating the crankshaft 18 and the camshafts 22, 26 at the reference positions thereof, and a step of finally assembling the preliminarily-assembled chain guide 32 in the engine body 12 while bringing the chain guide 32 into contact with the tensile part 30a of the timing chain 30 with a given pushing force. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
