PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for operating a blast furnace, with which even under increased the production in the blast furnace, the gas-phase S concentration in the blast furnace gas can effectively be reduced and the severe waste gas emission standards imposed on the iron-making works near the city can surely be met, without increasing nor extending desulfurizing equipment. SOLUTION: In the method for operating the blast furnace, control for distribution of charging materials is performed so that the ratio (B/A) of a height direction distance (B) from the position at 1,200°C on the wall surface in the furnace to a position at 1,200°C at the center of the furnace to a height direction distance (A) from a tuyere in the blast furnace to a stock line, becomes≥0.7.
