PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve throughput for transfer of data to a print head by the use of a controller. SOLUTION: The controller for controlling a print head having one or more nozzle lines includes: a buffer which is provided for each nozzle line and can expand print data; a transfer order setting register which, according to the number of nozzle lines to transfer print data, can change the area width of data area to which print data transfer order is set; and a transfer section which, on the basis of the print data transfer order, transfers print data in order from a storage section storing the print data to the buffers corresponding to the nozzle lines.
