ANTIVIRAL AGENT AND ANTIVIRAL COMPOSITION

Provided are an antiviral agent which has an excellent effect on a non-enveloped virus and is highly safe to the human body; and an antiviral composition which contains the antiviral agent and is useful for disinfection for the virus or prevention of infection of the virus. The antiviral agent is characterized by containing an extract from a plant of the genus Diospyros containing tannin, a catechin, wattle tannin, pentagalloyl glucose, coffee tannin, an alkyl gallate (excluding the above-mentioned extract from a plant of the genus Diospyros), pyrogallol or an organic acid and/or a salt thereof (excluding the above-mentioned extract from a plant of the genus Diospyros) as an active ingredient. Further, the antiviral composition of the invention is characterized by containing at least the above-mentioned antiviral agent and an alcohol, a surfactant, a microbicide, a moisturizing agent or an oil or fat for cosmetic, and preferably further contains citric acid and/or a salt thereof or a member of vitamin C group.
