<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a flame-retardant electret filter medium with a low pressure loss and of a long life, and to provide a filter unit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The flame-retardant electret filter medium contains a flame-retardant fiber including a silicone based compound containing a unit shown by RSiO<SB>1.5</SB>(R is an organic group) and including a compound having an imide structure, in which fibers of Young's modulus of 70 cN/dtex or larger are contained, in which the fibers are fused and fixed, of which the apparent density is 0.05-0.15 g/cm<SP>3</SP>, and of which the specific strength at extending by 1% is 150 N*cm/g or larger.
