<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a program for managing devices in a network, which quickly select devices to be managed from a plurality of devices connected to a network, and quickly create a device management list. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When a device 12 returns an engine ID in response to a broadcast to acquire the engine ID, a determination is made as to whether or not the plurality of devices are set to be managed in advance based on management information from a plurality of devices responding to the broadcast. Read data (request command) for reading information on devices is sent only to the devices to be managed, whereby information on the devices to receive the read data is obtained and a list of information on the devices to be managed is created based on the information obtained.
