The device (1) has a cylinder in which a piston is received in a back and forth movable manner. A dirt cover (3) is arranged radially outside a transition point of the cylinder and the piston. The dirt cover comprises ring elements (25) that are in contact with each other and are arranged adjacent to each other in an axial manner. The ring elements exhibit a u-shaped ring cross section, dual-T-shaped ring cross section or an s-type ring cross section. The piston is attached to a clutch release bearing (19) of a hydraulically operatable clutch (21).
