PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkaline storage battery that is compact, has light weight and high power by selecting a size of a battery in consideration of a current value (critical current value) which can make a largest discharging per a unit battery capacity. SOLUTION: The alkaline storage battery 10 includes, inside an outer can 17, an electrode group composed of a nickel positive electrode 11 having nickel hydroxide as a main positive electrode active material, a hydrogen storing alloy negative electrode 12 having a hydrogen storing alloy as an negative electrode active material and a separator 13, and an alkaline electrolytic solution. The nickel positive electrode 11 has the nickel hydroxide of the main positive electrode active material in which zinc is added and an added amount of zinc is 5 mass% or less against a nickel mass in the positive electrode active material, and discharging over a discharging rate of 60It can be made possible at a battery capacity 4.5 Ah or less.
