PURPOSE: A ridge type laser diode and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve yield of a laser diode chip by preventing a ridge unit form being damaged due to a collet of a pickup unit. CONSTITUTION: A ridge type laser diode includes a laser diode chip body(100) and a ridge part(101). The ridge part is protruded from an upper side of the laser diode chip body. The ridge part is separated from the center of the laser diode chip body and is leaned to one side.
