An anti-icing composition that can be used on surfaces, such as roads, pavements, airport runways, etc. to dissolve a layer of ice already formed, or preventing ice from forming, comprising an anti-icing solution and an additive to mix to the anti-icing solution in a measured amount, said additive being a polyhydroxylated compound, i.e. having at least two hydroxyl groups, - OH, such that a treated surface is not slippery. The additive is present in said anti-icing composition in a volume percentage larger than 2%, in particular set between 2% and 20%. The polyhydroxylated compound mixed to said anti-icing solution can be selected from the group comprised of : glycerol; mannitol; sorbitol; lactulose; xylitol; levulose; sucrose; glucose; a combination thereof.
