<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for appropriately switching contents of different time lengths or content constructions. <P>SOLUTION: A content switching apparatus includes at least a position identifying section (800) and a playback control section (700). When switching from first contents (broadcast program) to second contents (VOD contents), the position identifying section identifies a position in the second contents where a video image corresponding to a first video image in the first contents is located. The playback control section then determines a playback starting position to start playing back the second contents based on the position identified by the position identifying section.
