PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the shape accuracy of optical members. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a master 10 for use in forming a plurality of lens parts 5 made of a curable resin on a glass substrate 3 which has a plurality of negative or positive molding surfaces conforming to an optical surface shape of the lens parts 5, includes forming of the plurality of molding surfaces on the surface of a material for the master 10 by cutting using a ball end mill having at least three degrees of translational freedom and one degree of rotational freedom and having a diamond cutting edge.
