A banknote storage cassette (30) has a banknote put-in slot (38a) provided within a cassette chassis, one or more first banknote storage sections (34, 36) where at least one first banknote storage section stores correct banknotes, and a second banknote storage section (32) to store false banknotes or alleged banknotes. A banknote handling machine (10) has main body chassis (11a, 11b), a banknote put-in section (12), a carrier section (22) to carry the banknotes put in the banknote put-in section (12), an identification section (18) to identify the banknotes to be carried by the carrier section (22), and the banknote storage cassette (30) to which the banknotes are fed from the carrier section (22). The banknote storage cassette (30) is flexibly removable from the main body chassis (11b), and the banknotes fed to the banknote storage cassette (30) are sent to the first banknote storage sections (34, 36) or the second banknote storage section (32) depending on the identification result from the identification section (18).
