PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method preventing a travel device from slipping down in the middle of an upward slope, even when tractive force control is in operation, in the control method of the travel device constituted of an HST. SOLUTION: This control method of a hydrostatic transmission type travel device constituted by connecting a variable displacement hydraulic pump and a variable displacement hydraulic motor, is characterized in that an absorption quantity of the hydraulic motor is controlled so as to become less than a required absorption quantity when existing in a predetermined speed area, and is controlled so as to exceed the required absorption quantity when moving in the different direction to the advancing direction.
