<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a misfire detecting device of an internal combustion engine capable of surely grasping a misfire condition even in an exceptional operating condition. Ž<P>SOLUTION: This misfire detecting device includes an ignition coil 1 supplying high voltage to an ignition plug PG, a switching element 2 driving the ignition coil 1 intermittently, an ion current detecting circuit 3 connected to the secondary coil 1S of the ignition coil 1, a comparator 4 comparing the detection signal AG of the ion current detecting circuit 3 with a prescribed value and outputting a determining pulse DG, and an electronic control circuit 5 receiving the determining pulse DG. The electronic control circuit 5 consists of a section extracting means extracting a time width WIDTH in a vibrating section with the determining pulse DG occurring repeatedly, and a determining means detecting the misfire condition based on the extracted time width WIDTH.
