<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a charging device for an engine improving output response and preventing formation of black smoke in acceleration. Ž<P>SOLUTION: If it is determined that an acceleration condition of the engine 1 is a prescribed acceleration condition when part of exhaust gas of the engine 1 is recirculated to an intake side via an EGR valve 22, compressed air supplied from a main air tank 44 is directly supplied into an intake port 54 of each cylinder from an air injection nozzle 58 by controlling an air control valve 32 provided with corresponding to each cylinder.
