PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device and a headup display device, each equipped with an illuminating means capable of illuminating a display area of a liquid crystal display panel with a desired luminance distribution. SOLUTION: A light emitting element 19 emits illumination light. A flexible light transmission member 18 has an entrance end 18a, which the illuminating light enters and an exit end 18b from which the illuminating light exits. The liquid crystal display panel 15 has a predetermined display area and is illuminated with the illumination light. The flexible light transmitting member 18 has a converged spot which converges and is narrowed more than the display region, and the exit end 18b of the flexible light transmitting member 18 is set wider than the converged spot.
