<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive composition for producing a nonwoven fabric which improves adhesive force by safe liquefaction and emulsification of an adhesive whose safe liquefaction and emulsification have been difficult. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The adhesive composition is obtained by mixing at least one polymeric compound having adhesion performance, a water soluble polymeric compound or its aqueous solution as a solvent, and at least one of a polyhydric alcohol, a plasticizer, and a surfactant. Preferably, the polyhydric alcohol is ethylene glycol or glycerin, the surfactant is an anionic, cationic or amphoteric surfactant, and the aqueous solution of a water soluble polymeric compound is an aqueous solution of a water soluble epoxy resin. Furthermore, the polymeric compound having adhesion is at least one saturated polyester resin, an unsaturated polyester resin, an epoxy resin, polyvinyl alcohol, an acrylic resin, a urethane resin, a copolymer thereof, a water soluble acrylic ester, a phenolic resin, a urethane resin, and starch, and sodium alginate.
