<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surroundings monitoring device for a vehicle, enabling a driver to more surely comprehend the state of a blind area. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The surroundings monitoring device for a vehicle is used to monitor a blind area in a region which extends on right and left on the front viewed from the driver. The monitoring device is provided with: real image pickup means (2, 6) provided on the rear part of a vehicle so as to pick up a real image of the blind area; a real image storage means (30) for storing real images picked up by the real image pickup means; an imaginary image generating means (38) for generating images of the blind area of the real image pickup means as imaginary images from past real images stored in the real image storage means; and display means (26, 14) for displaying the virtual images generated by the imaginary image generating means together with the real image picked up by the real image pickup means.
