<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device that reliably shields light on IC backside with a simple configuration at low cost, and to provide a light shielding method of a semiconductor integrated circuit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device is configured such that the semiconductor integrated circuit is directly mounted at a lead out terminal of a glass substrate to thereby shield light on the surface and side of the semiconductor integrated circuit. When viewing the backside of the glass substrate, a backside light shielding part having at least a shape and size concealing the semiconductor integrated circuit is formed at the part for mounting the semiconductor integrated circuit on the glass substrate surface, and the backside light shielding part is formed by directly printing light shielding ink on the glass substrate surface.
