Provided is a culturing method for photosynthetic microorganisms such as microalgae, said method being capable of: preventing algal bodies from building up when photosynthetic microorganisms such as microalgae are cultured in wide flat ponds; achieving effective supply of carbon dioxide gas; and allowing a simpler structure for the flat ponds. In the culturing method for photosynthetic microorganisms such as microalgae, an apparatus is provided with: a flat pool (1) to be filled with a suspension (m) of the microalgae and a culture fluid, said pool being illuminated by sunlight, being in contact with air, and having a large surface area; a storage tank (2) for storing the suspension (m); and a fluid transfer mechanism for transferring the suspension between the flat pool (1) and the storage tank (2). The culturing method for photosynthetic microorganisms such as microalgae is characterized by the repetition, at least twice during daytime, of a process (A) for illuminating the suspension (m) in the flat pool (1) with sunlight, a process (B) for transferring the suspension (m) from the flat pool (1) to the storage tank (2), and a process (C) for transferring the suspension (m) from the storage tank (2) to the flat pool (1); and is further characterized by the dissolution of carbon dioxide gas in the suspension (m) in the storage tank (2).
