Provided are hydrophilic cellulose derivative fine particles having small particle diameters; fluid dispersions of the particles and solid dispersions thereof; and diagnostic drugs which comprise hydrophilic particles and which are excellent in storage stability and can dispense with extra components such as emulsifying agents or surfactants. Cellulose derivative fine particles comprising a cellulose derivative which is prepared by partially replacing the hydroxyl groups of cellulose by other substituents, characterized in that the mean particle diameter is 9 to 1000nm; and diagnostic drugs characterized by comprising a substance capable of bonding specifically to an analyte and the cellulose derivative fine particles supporting the substance thereon.
