PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an antenna element and a portable radio device which are compact, have high gain and are broadband and adaptive to multiple bands. SOLUTION: The antenna element 5 includes: a substantially rectangular first conductor plate 51 arranged in the vicinity of a hinge portion 4 at a predetermined interval S from a lower circuit board (base) 21; a substantially rectangular second conductor plate 52 which shares one side of the first conductor plate 51 in the width direction and is bent substantially by 90 degrees with respect to the first conductor plate; and a substantially rectangular third conductor plate 53 which shares the other side opposing in the width direction to the side shared by the first conductor plate 51 of the second conductor plate 52 and is arranged at an angle of substantially 90 degrees so as to oppose to the first conductor plate 51.
