<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing system for using resources such as dedicated processors constituted of a plurality of processors which execute image processing at high speed and a work memory while sharing them, and to provide an image processing unit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image processing system includes: a plurality of general instruction operation means for executing general-purpose instructions in an instruction group having a described procedure for image information processing; a plurality of extended instruction operation means for executing an extended instruction in the instruction group to process the image information at high speed; a first connection means for selectively connecting each general-purpose instruction operation means of the execution request source to one of the plurality of extended instruction operation means, in response to each execution request of the extended instruction from the plurality of general-purpose instruction operation means; and an image processing means for processing inputted image information by allowing the execution of the general-purpose instructions by the general-purpose instruction operation means connected by the first connection means, and by allowing the execution of the extended instruction by the extended instruction operation means connected to the general-purpose instruction operation means.
