<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection screen and system that obtains a satisfactory contrast. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The projection screen includes: a supporting base material; a circularly polarized light separation layer; and a phase difference layer in this order. The surface of the phase difference layer further includes a polarization retaining diffusion layer, particularly, a polarization retaining diffusion layer comprising gradient refractive index particles as a light diffusion agent.
