<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a high-quality semiconductor laser device that is manufactured with a semiconductor laser element being mounted on a submount easily and accurately, and also to provide a method of mounting the semiconductor laser element. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The semiconductor laser device includes the submount 11 having a mounting surface 18 formed in a planar state, a plurality of connection electrodes 14 formed on the mounting surface 18, and the semiconductor laser element 12 which is mounted on the submount 11 via the connection electrodes 14 and can emit laser light in a direction parallel to the mounting surface 18.
