METHOD OF INSPECTING POLARIZING FILM

Defects of a belt-like polarizing film are detected by using a defect inspection device (S2), and, based on the detection results about the defects, defect position data for indicating the positions of the defects is created and stored in a storage medium (S3), and the belt-like polarizing film is taken up on a roll (S5). Then, the belt-like polarizing film is wound off from the roll (S6), and other film is stacked on the belt-like polarizing film (S7). After stacking the other film, the defect position data stored in the storage medium is read in to identify the positions of the defects in the polarizing film based on the read-in defect position data (S8). Based on the identified positions of the defects, marks are formed near the positions of the defects on the other film (S9). Consequently, marks can be formed near the positions of the defects detected by the defect inspection device without making unusable a portion of the polarizing film which contains only the acceptable defects out of the defects detected by the defect inspection device.
