<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To hold a cell gap without using spherical spacers. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a first substrate and a second substrate facing the first substrate, and the first substrate includes a pixel electrode, a thin film transistor, and a first alignment film provided above the pixel electrode, and the second substrate includes selectively provided color filters, a plurality of gap holding members, and a second alignment film provided so as to cover the plurality of gap holding members. Material of the gap holding members is a photopolymer, and the gap holding members are provided in regions provided with no color filters as well as regions provided with color filters, and the gap holding members provided in the regions provided with no color filters are higher than those in the regions provided with color filters.
