<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and accumulatively measure oxidizing gases. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A gas detection element 100 is provided with: transparent porous glass (a porous body) 102, provided with a plurality of pores 101; potassium iodide 103 carried (arranged) in pores 101; and a host substance 104 for forming a clathrate complex with iodine. The host substance 104 is, for example, a water-soluble polymer such as saccharides such as α-cyclodextrin; β-cyclodextrin; γ-cyclodextrin; amylose; and amylopectin and polyvinyl alcohol.
